As an independent researcher, Elly Hellings participates in the research set up by the Curaçao Biomedical & Health Research Institute in collaboration with 4 universities into the resilience of vulnerable families on 3 Caribbean islands.
The COVID-19 epidemic and the measures taken by the government as a result have major effects on vulnerable families in Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. Qualitative research has been set up by CBHRI, Utrecht University, University of Curaçao, University of Aruba and University of Sint Maarten to visualize the consequences from a human rights perspective. But also is looked at what it means for the quality of life and resilience of the target group involved. The results are used to advise the government on how to better and more effectively reach vulnerable target groups in future crisis situations and pandemics. The research is funded by the Dutch funding agency ZonMW.
